He led everyone out of the apartheid controlled world at a time when the different races didn’t mix, resulting in 27 years in prison on Robben Island. A source says that a whole generation grew up not knowing- or not caring what he did to free his race from prejudice; Not many people- or at least world leaders actually get free from a life sentence in prison and live up until the age of 95. I heard of his death via Twitter and thought they were doing a play on words as he wasn’t too well with various conditions in the last couple of years or so.
From watching Invictus (A film based around Mandela) and hearing on online news articles that there is a Mandela movie that Prince William watched, unaware that Mandela was already dead, I found him some sort of inspirational person who was still ready to walk the earth after his long time in prison where he was nearly non exsistant to the world.
As far as I know, there hasn’t been too much hate about him at the moment, but stories would scramble out from everywhere (especially tabloids) but has otherwise come to a surprising shock.
Still sad about his death, but people only really live once and if he had survived anymore he would be 100. A loss of a great leader.
